Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living ©
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
(Hebrews 13:8 (NIV))
Nothing is ever the same in this life. It is impossible to ground yourself in anything in this world. Just when you think things are as they should be, something terrible happens and things are a complete mess.
If you base your perspective of life on things worldly, then you are going to be let down many times. If you base your life on things that are of God, with the center of your focus on Jesus Christ, then you will never be let down. With the beginning of the new year already here, keep your perspective clearly focused on Jesus, for He never changes.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Be Still . . .

“At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people–everyone whose name is found written in the book–will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”
(Daniel 12:1-4 (NIV))
This speaks of wondrous times and fearful times. We look forward to the time when Jesus will return and reign in glory. At the same time, we all have family and friends that we are praying for to be saved so that they do not face the “shame and everlasting contempt.”
God has not changed his plan from the time that He revealed it to Daniel to this day. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. If He said it once, it will come to be. Since we accept the fact that He is unchanging, we must fervently pray for non-believers to believe. We must follow after God’s own heart. He does not wish any to perish.
Does your heart ache when you see people following their own way?

“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.
(Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV))
God is the same yesterday, today and forever. People and times change.
When God does a new thing, it is taking his steadfast, unchanging ways and presenting them in a way that people will understand. God is good all the time. It is people who fall short of “good.”
With the new year now upon us, we must not get stuck in the old routine of saying “That is not how we used to do it!” God told us through Isaiah that He is doing a new thing. Are we to criticize God because it is not the way He used to do it? Remember that even if God does do a new thing, it will not contradict what He has done in the past.
Always test against Scripture to make sure that it is from God.
Happy New Year!
