Be Still . . .

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.
(Exodus 14:15 (NIV))
God spoke these words to Moses when the Egyptians were pursuing them and had them cornered at the sea. To the Israelites, it looked like they had two choices – die at the hands of Pharaoh’s army or die in the sea.
God had other plans!
The Israelites were looking at their situation through worldly eyes. Many of them even vocalized their lack of faith.
They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
(Exodus 14:11 (NIV))
It is human nature to see the worst in a situation. It is hope that allows us to see the best in the very same situations. It is faith that allows us to take action on our hope and have results that astound the world. In this story, the Israelites overcame their worldly viewpoint and literally stepped out in faith and gave us a glimpse into the majesty and power that God has over His creation. Without their faith and this story, we may not realize that God controls His creation.
It took faith! It also took a direct command from God to Moses to get the people moving.
Do you have that type of faith?
Have you heard the Lord say to get moving?

The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness.
(Proverbs 15:9 (NIV))
Do you think that you are a lovable person?
If you are like most people, you have a few people whom you are close to. Family members hopefully think that you are lovable. Friends may even think that to a point. What are the criteria on which they base this impression? Do they think that you are lovable because you and they have grown familiar with each other and your interests coincide with theirs? Perhaps they find you lovable because you are willing to sacrifice of yourself for their betterment. What is it that you find lovable in others? Is it the same type of things that others see in you? Do you know what the criteria are that people use to determine in their minds if you are lovable?
What about the Lord?
We know that the Lord loves us very much even though we are all sinners. It is for this reason that Jesus came!
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16 (NIV))
Proverbs 15:9 gives us some very interesting insight into the Lord’s love. It does not state that He hates the wicked, after all, they are also a part of His creation. What we do see is that He detests their wickedness. Based on the fact that we are all sinners, each and every one of us has wickedness within. The Lord detests that wickedness, but has established a way for that wickedness to be washed away and replaced with His righteousness. All that we have to do is admit that we are a sinner, believe in Jesus, and confess that Jesus is our Lord. If you have taken these steps, then you are pursuing righteousness.
Are you detested or loved?
Are you lovable?

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
(Proverbs 29:18 (KJV))
Has God given you a vision?
Life is more than simply working nine to five and then going home. Life is a gift from God. This gift is to be used to reach others for Jesus. It is said that our life is a gift from God. What we do with it is our gift to God.
With this in mind, God has a purpose for each and every single person that has ever lived or will ever live. He has placed a glimpse of this purpose in us as our unique vision. If we acknowledge that vision and seek to fulfill it, then we are pursuing what God has planned for us.
We must remember, though, that God does not want us to seek His vision and forsake His commands. We must seek God each and every step of the way on the journey of our fulfilling our vision. We must not try to achieve His purpose in our own way.
Has God given you a vision?
How are you at fulfilling that vision?
