Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living

As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
(1 Thessalonians 4:1 (NIV))

Do you believe that God is just?

Do you believe that He cannot associate with sin?

Do you believe that humanity fell from grace and we are all sinners?

Do you believe that God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to be an atoning sacrifice for our sins?

Do you believe that by accepting the free gift of grace, our sins are forgiven?

Do you believe that since our sins are forgiven that God can now rebuild the association with us?

If you believe all of this, why do you, and I am using the word you collectively, continue to live lives that are not pleasing to God? We all have a tendency to do this. Our current society seems to be pushing the envelope. Society seems to be trying to taunt God by continually crossing the line that God has clearly defined. My prayers go out for those who cross that line, for contrary to what society says, God says that there is a right way to live!

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
(James 1:22 (NIV))

How many times have you heard someone say that they read the Bible? Do there actions prove it? Do their lives reflect it? Do their business dealings indicate that they have heard the Word and have taken it to heart?

All too often we hear of people reading the Bible all of the time, but they do not practice what it tells them. They fail to recognize the fact that they are to reflect and to change according to what God tells them through His Word. When you read or hear the Word of God, do not simply let it bounce around without having any impact. Let the truth sink in and if it hurts a little, then you have actually experienced what was intended. The Word of God is living and is meant to direct and guide us in our daily lives. If this means that there is some self examination because of what was read or heard, then it is working.

Let God, through the Holy Spirit, guide you in all things through what God has told us in His Word.

There is only one way to be righteous in the eyes of God!

For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.
(Romans 3:23 (ASV))

Too many people ignore this simple fact. They think that they are a good person and that they have done nothing wrong. They think that this will get them into heaven.

What they don’t stop to realize is that human nature is sinful. It has been ever since the fall in the Garden of Eden and their lack of doing anything bad does not make them righteous.

There is only one way to be righteous in the eyes of God. Accept His Son, Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and you will overcome the simple fact that is stated in Romans.
