Do you believe?

Be Still . . .
Devotionals for Daily Living

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(John 1:1 (NIV))

Do you ever need to be reminded of this?

If you are like me, it is easy to become disillusioned by the events of our day to day lives and the events that transpire in the world. I have to stop and remind myself that the world in its current state is not the same world that God created for us to live in. God literally created a paradise and we blew it! The world that we see and the lives that we live in this world are direct results of what humanity did that caused the fall from grace. I have to constantly remind myself that God created perfection and it is our faith in Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior that will allow us to see perfection, to live life to the full in the presence of God.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
(Hebrews 11:1 (NIV))

Are you confident in your faith? Do you believe that something better is coming to those who believe?

I am the Alpha and the Omega

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
(Revelation 22:13 (NIV))

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(John 1:1 (NIV))

Are you starting to get the picture? Perhaps one more scripture will help to solidify the concept and make it a concrete reality for you.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
(Genesis 1:1 (NIV))

God is the one to whom we owe our existence. He is the one to whom we owe our lives.

“This is what the LORD says–
your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb:
I am the LORD,
who has made all things,
who alone stretched out the heavens,
who spread out the earth by myself,
(Isaiah 44:24 (NIV))

In our frail human nature, we all too often forget this simple, yet profound truth. We try to elevate ourselves to the position of creator. We try to assume authority over our lives. Can an automobile take credit for the gas mileage that it gets? Can a house boast about the shelter, safety and comfort it provides to its occupants? In the same manner, we cannot take credit for anything that we have, for we are simply part of the creation. We are not the creator.

Long before we were, God was! Long after we are gone, He will still be! We have a definite beginning. Only through His grace and mercy do we have the option of not having a definite end. Through His grace and mercy we can spend the rest of eternity with Him.

What is the first thing that you remember? God was there!

He will give you peace!

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
(Colossians 3:15-17 (NIV))

Peace! The world longs for it. The news talks about it. But peace will only come from the Lord Jesus Christ. Stay in God’s Word and peace will be yours, for:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(John 1:1 NIV))

Jesus is the Word. Peace comes only through accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Reside in the Word and you will reside in Jesus,

He will give you peace!

And above all things, be doers of the word. Spread God’s peace to all who will listen.

Have a very Mighty Christ’s Mass

December 24, 2012

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God– children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
(John 1:1-14 (NIV))

John wrote these words to help people understand who Jesus is. John new full well who Jesus is. The words that he wrote have helped people come to this realization ever since they were written. At this time of the year when we celebrate Jesus’ birth, we all need to be reminded of Jesus’ stature.

Perhaps this is evident in the greeting at this time of year. I have heard that in old English, “merry” actually meant “mighty”. With this in mind, think about having a very mighty Christ’s mass. The following words take on a new meaning when we look at them in this way.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
