Be Still . . .

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

How many times do we need to be told about the depth and breadth of God’s love for us?
Sometimes I feel that we could be told every second of our lives and we would still find times that we forget what is so prevalent in God’s message to us. Face the truth of our sinful existence. There have undoubtedly been times within the last twenty four hours that God’s love for you was forgotten.
Do you think that God is trying to tell us something?
Paul wrote about how wide and long and high and deep, and in the very next thought he tells us that God’s love surpasses knowledge. In other words, we cannot comprehend it because it is so vast. Perhaps that is why we constantly need to be reminded about the magnitude of God’s love for us. It is simply beyond human capacity to understand.
God’s love passes our ability to understand. God’s peace is also beyond our understanding.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:7 (NIV))
Even with all of the sinful things in our lives, God loves us. All we have to do is accept it. Once we accept it, embrace it and embrace God’s peace so that you may be filled to the measure of all fullness of God.
Do you truly understand the fullness of God’s love?

Be Still . . .

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
(Ephesians 3:16-19 (NIV))
I cannot imagine a more fitting prayer to be prayed for the Body of Christ, for it asks some wonderful things of God. We would be truly blessed if we became as described in this prayer.
I long to be a person who is blessed with the power of God’s Holy Spirit so that Jesus may fill me completely. I long to be so rooted in God’s Word and established in His love, that I will truly understand how wide and long and high and deep is the love that Jesus has for us. I long to be filled with the fullness of God.
This may sound selfish, but carefully consider the outcome of the change in character of each person who earnestly seeks these traits. As you become more rooted in God’s Word and established in His love, we grow and mature. When we become filled with the fulness of God, we grow and mature. We start to take on the characteristics that God desires each of us to possess.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
(Galatians 5:22-26 (NIV))
Praying for each of us to be strengthened with the power of God is an awesome prayer. Do you pray that for yourself? Don’t take this lightly, for it is asking to receive the fulness of God. You must be ready to receive it if you ask for it. You must be ready to use it once you receive it.
