“Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
(Matthew 10:11-16 (NIV))

Jesus knew that not everyone would receive the Gospel. It probably broke His heart to know that those who do not will be lost forever. Even so, He gave instruction to the Disciples then and to us now.

We must be wise to the world, but rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance. We must work diligently and fervently for the sake of the Kingdom. There are many people who do not know of the Truth of the Gospel. We must share this Truth with as many as possible. Only God knows if the seeds that are planted will ever take root. We can continue to pray for those people, but we must also move on to others who are in need of hearing.

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
(Matthew 9:37-38)
