Can we ask that of our society today?

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.
(Joshua 24:15 (NIV))

We can ask that of our population today. Whom will you serve? The answers may surprise you if you think that everything is okay in our society.

People will respond with, “I serve myself, after all, no one else will serve me,” and “I serve no one,” and “I don’t know.” Perhaps the worst one is the apathetic response where they serve no one. These are the people who go through life without any commitment at all, either good or bad. In our society, even among believers, we may be hard pressed to find someone who truly serves the Lord.

Why is this?

We have been inundated with messages about self-gratification and other messages that basically tell us that there is no God except ourselves. If we are told that there is no higher authority than our own desires, how can we expect anyone to serve anyone but themselves?

Who do you truly serve?
